You are unique. I am unique. How can we think that it is a good thing to try and do things like they have always been done? Then neither of us are going to be our best selves – our true selves, made in the very image of the God of the universe. There is no best way to do a thing because there are so many creative ways to do a thing. Christ makes all things new when we participate, free to be our unique selves - together.
Jesus asked Peter, Do you love me? three times. Jesus replied, Feed my sheep. All of them. The unforgivable sin is to not recognize the work of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ performing God’s work. When I notice a person living in a certain way and judge that lifestyle as contrary to God – whereby ignoring the goodness and Jesus-inspired activity in which the individual is engaged, blind to the fruit of God’s love and peace and provision extended through them . . . Who am I that I could hinder God?!
Our kids teach us about parenthood, each unique. Living like a mother-father is really living like a leader – the leader that Jesus teaches us, and that seems only to require that we are known by our voice and know those in our care. This is love. This is leadership. This is parenting.
